Step by Step guide to renew Indian passport in UK - Don't forget to share

Renewing Indian passport in UK is quite simple but getting the information how to do it is tough job. Here is a step by step Guide to renew your passport in UK.

Step - 1

Go to http://www.passport.gov.in/nri/index.jsp 

Select the location you wish to go for your passport renew

Rest of the form is self explanatory. After you fill up the form, it will give you a PDF. Take the print out of the PDF.

Step -2

Take 4 PHOTOS 2”X2” 

Step -3 

Book an appointment on the portal http://www.vfsglobal.com/India/UK/schedule_an_appointment.html

Just a small note, when you try for booking an appointment, it always gives you an appointment after a week. so make sure you have sufficient time before you try booking an appointment.

The appointment system is not nice, it forces you to book an appointment even if you just want to check for a slot. If it happens that you booked an appointment while checking for a slot and you dont want to take that appointment, make sure you reschedule the appointment which suits your or you cancel the appointment.

Step -4
Documents required

• Original passport/s
• Application for print out
• 4 PHOTOS 2”X2” (please make sure you take 2”X2” photos otherwise you will have to spend lot of money to get that clicked). Photome booths are best for this purpose.
• If you are married then please take original marriage certificate and your wife's( or vice versa) passport with you.(this is required if you want to put your wife's name on your passport or vice versa).
• Photo copies (2 sets) of your passport/s , marriage certificate(if applicable- 2 sets), partners passport photo copies( if applicable - 2 sets)

Getting there to the VFS centre

I have processed my passport application from London so I only have idea about where the center is at London. Please excuse me if you have other application center. 

You would think getting there to the visa application center will be very easy, well not for all. people often get confused where the building is. follow the below steps so that you don't get lost

It's a short 5mins walk from the London Paddington tube station

After you come out of the station, take left and walk to the direction mentioned as below:-

Walk straight until you see the below building on your left- Its called - 'THE BATTLESHIP BUILDING'. At the end of this building , there is a ramp that goes down which leads to the way to the VFS center. Most people get confused at this point, make sure you see the ramp going down and take it.

At the VFS enter

You would think that your work will get finished with in the 15 mins slots you have been given. But its exactly right! at the center you will be given a token number for your application and normally the wait time at the center if 30-60 mins. Make sure you reach the center before 30mins so that you can queue in early.
